Uppsala Monitoring Centre
Welcome to the UMC the Uppsala Monitoring Centre (the UMC) is the field-name of the WHO Collaborating Centre for International Drug Monitoring. the UMC is responsible for the management of the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring.
An independent centre of scientific excellence, the UMC offers a range of products and services, derived from the WHO global individual case safety report (ICSR) database, from healthcare providers and patients in member countries of the WHO Programme. There is no other official body with as independent and global perspective on drug safety as the WHO and its Collaborating Centre, the UMC. We provide essential resources for regulatory agencies, health professionals, researchers, the pharmaceutical industry.
Activities of the UMC include:
Co-ordinating the WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring
Collecting, assessing and communicating information from member countries about the benefits, harm, effectiveness and risks of drugs
Collaborating with member countries in the development and practice of pharmacovigilance (Click for WHO definition of pharmacovigilance)
Alerting regulatory authorities of member countries about potential drug safety problems via the WHO signal process
Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute
The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, formerly known as the Swiss Tropical Institute was founded in 1943 as
a public organization. Since its founding , it has become a world-renowned Institution for teaching, research and services
in the field of International Health Development. The multi- and cross-disciplinary activities and experience of scientific
laboratory studies, conceptual clinical work and practical transfer of technical expertise to health system planning and programmes
in local, national and partner countries are the building blocks of our success. The mandate of the Swiss TPH is to
contribute to the improvement of the health of populations internationally and nationally through excellence in research, services, and teaching and training.
The Swiss TPH (Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute) is an Associated Institute of the University of Basel. The Swiss Tropical Institute was founded in 1943 by Professor Rudolf Geigy as a public organization, with support from the Swiss Federal Council and the Canton of Basel-Stadt. The Swiss TPH has major collaborative projects in Europe, North America, Australia, and other countries around the world.
Today over 500 colleagues from 40 nations work worldwide for the Swiss TPH in research, teaching and service provision with the single goal to facilitate and contribute to health development worldwide with a strong focus on underdeveloped countries. It is determined to improve public health, strengthen health systems and reduce poverty through partnerships, mutual learning, contribution and achievement.
University of Ghana Medical School
THE UNIVERSITY OF GHANA was founded in 1948 as the University College of the Gold Coast on the recommendation of the Asquith Commission, on Higher Education in the then British colonies. The University of Ghana is a member of the International Association of Universities (IAU), the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) and the Association of African Universities (AAU). The University is also a member the League of World Universities (which comprise 47 renowned research universities all over the world). The University has also established academic and research links with several Universities and Research Institutions worldwide. In addition, the University has also been linked to the Norwegian Universities’ Committee for Development Research and Education (NUFU), the Council for International Educational Exchange (CIEE) based in New York, International Student Exchange Programmes (ISEP) and the Commonwealth Universities Student Exchange Consortium (CUSAC), among others. With a current student population of about 29754 the University of Ghana is the oldest and largest of the six public Universities in Ghana.
